Crystal Systems
The seven classical crystal systems, symmetry, character, and the stones in each.
Cubic
highest symmetry; equilibrium, equanimity, the energetic signature of fairness
Tetragonal
four-fold axis; vertical aspiration with a stable square base
Hexagonal
six-fold symmetry; communal coherence, snowflake order
Trigonal
three-fold axis; the most common system for collectible quartz, calcite, and corundum
Orthorhombic
three perpendicular axes of unequal length; brick-like steadiness
Monoclinic
a single oblique angle; relational adaptability and gentle yielding
Triclinic
no perpendicular axes; the most asymmetric system, prized for individual character
Amorphous
no long-range lattice order; volcanic glasses and organic stones, protean energetic character
