About Crystal Lore

A quiet, well-organized library of healing crystals and metaphysical gemstone properties, for collectors who want real information without the theatre.

What this library is

Crystal Lore is a reference library of 168 gemstones and crystals. Each entry combines real mineralogical data, chemistry, hardness, crystal system, color, with the metaphysical and chakra associations that crystal practitioners have used for generations. It is neither a shop nor a catalog. There is nothing for sale here.

The audience is everyday collectors: people who actually use their stones, who want to choose well, pair thoughtfully, and care for the pieces they own. The aim is plain language, generous detail, and honest sourcing.

Where the data comes from

Mineral and gemstone data, names, chemical formulas, crystal systems, Mohs hardness, and related properties, is sourced from Wikidata, the open structured-data project, via its public SPARQL endpoint. We query for instances and subclasses of mineral and gemstone categories and store the results locally; the seed script is run once and updated as needed. When the primary source is incomplete for a given entry, we supplement with general-reference mineralogy.

The metaphysical content, chakra associations, healing uses, traditional pairings, daily practices, reflects centuries-old crystal-healing traditions as they are commonly understood in modern Western practice. We try to write these in a way that is useful without being doctrinaire. Where there is genuine disagreement between traditions, we say so.

Editorial stance

We hold three lines:

  • Crystals are contemplative tools, not medicine. They support attention, intention, and ritual. They do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.
  • Tradition is worth taking seriously, even when it cannot be measured. Centuries of folk wisdom about color, energy, and stone are not nothing, but they are also not a substitute for honest medical or psychological care.
  • The reader is treated as an adult. We will not promise outcomes we cannot deliver, and we will not pretend skepticism does not exist.

Why "Crystal Lore"

Lore is the body of knowledge that gets handed down because it has been useful, not because it has been proven. Most of what is meaningful in human life travels this way: through stories, through small practices, through objects passed between hands. Crystal lore is one such body of knowledge, and it deserves a careful, well-lit room of its own.
