Moonstone and labradorite are sister stones in the feldspar family, and the tradition pairs them for the same reason they appear together in nature: they describe two halves of a single, coherent practice. Moonstone opens the receptive, intuitive register; labradorite protects that opening from being overwhelmed.
The receptive half, moonstone
Moonstone has a long folk association with the lunar cycle, with feminine energy in the symbolic rather than gendered sense, and with the kind of intuitive knowing that arrives sideways rather than head-on. It is the stone collectors keep on the bedside table during seasons of active dreamwork, and the one they carry during the days when the question is not "what should I think?" but "what am I sensing?"
The protective half, labradorite
Labradorite is the same family of mineral with a different optical structure: it has the famous blue-green flash that catches light from any angle. The tradition holds that this flash is metaphorically the right kind of protection for intuitive work, it does not block, it deflects, it reflects. Labradorite is the stone for people whose intuitive practice is opening faster than their psychological defenses can keep up with.
A practice for dreamwork
Place moonstone under the pillow or on the bedside table. Set labradorite on the windowsill or nightstand within sight of the bed. The arrangement creates a small circuit: moonstone receives, labradorite protects. Keep a notebook within reach for morning recall. After two weeks, the dream content tends to become more available.
Carrying the pair
For waking intuitive work, readings, sensitive conversations, decisions that ask the gut to weigh in, carry both stones in a single pouch. The pair is light and small enough to live in a coat pocket throughout a season.
Care
Both feldspars are softer than quartz and should not be stored loose with harder stones. Cleanse with smoke or moonlight. Brief water rinses are acceptable but not necessary. Direct sunlight is fine for short periods.
Best for
Dreamwork; intuitive practice; the felt sense of psychic protection during expanded awareness.
What to avoid
Both are relatively soft (Mohs ~6), store separately from harder stones.
