How to Pair Lapis Lazuli & Amazonite

Throat-chakra clarity meeting heart-honest expression, for difficult conversations.

Lapis lazuli and amazonite are the throat-chakra pairing for situations where what needs to be said is true, important, and likely to land hard. Lapis brings the clarity and the willingness to speak; amazonite tempers the speech with care so it can be received.

Why these two together

Lapis lazuli has a long association with truthful speech and articulate authority, it was the stone of scribes and rulers in the ancient world for reasons that probably had as much to do with cost and beauty as metaphysics. The folk teaching is that lapis sharpens the words. Amazonite, the pale-green and turquoise stone, has a complementary reputation: it softens the way the words are spoken so that the listener can stay in the room.

A practice for hard conversations

Carry one small piece of each in a pocket pouch on the day of the conversation. An hour beforehand, sit quietly with both in the palm and rehearse the actual sentences you will say, out loud, slowly. The stones do not deliver the conversation. The rehearsal does. The stones are the cue for the rehearsal.

At the writing desk

For writing that requires the same balance, a difficult email, a piece of journalism, a personal essay, keep both stones at the corner of the desk. Touch them once before beginning. The cue is the same as in conversation: clarity in the words, care in the framing.

Cleansing

Both stones are sensitive. Lapis can be wiped with a dry cloth and rested on selenite overnight; do not soak it. Amazonite is similarly fragile. Smoke cleansing with cedar or rosemary is universally safe for both.

A note on color quality

Genuine lapis is deep blue with small inclusions of golden pyrite. The pyrite is a sign of authenticity; uniformly pigmented "lapis" is usually dyed howlite. Genuine amazonite is pale green to blue-green; the brighter the stone, the lower the color is likely to be from natural causes. Source from a reputable seller.

Best for

Hard conversations; speaking truthfully without harshness; writing that requires both clarity and care.

What to avoid

Both are relatively soft and can fade in sun, keep out of extended UV.
