Crown Chakra

Sahasrara · The opening. Where the small self remembers it is held by something larger.

About the Crown Chakra

The crown chakra is the open lid of the system. Where the root chakra anchors you to the earth, the crown opens to whatever you understand as larger, God, source, nature, mystery, the deep field. Selenite, clear quartz, amethyst, and white howlite are the crown stones, almost all of them luminous, translucent, or arrestingly pure in color. The crown is not chased. It is uncovered. The work here is rarely to acquire some new spiritual experience; it is to clear out enough mental noise that the connection that has always been there can be felt.

This center governs connection to something larger than the self, meaning, presence, awareness, the felt sense of being part of a whole.

Signs the Crown Chakra is open

You feel meaningfully connected, to people, to nature, to your own life. Awe is available. Even hard times have a thread of significance. The mind is capable of stillness.

Signs of imbalance

A sense of meaninglessness, spiritual cynicism, headaches at the crown, disconnection from values, over-attachment to dogma, or constant intellectualizing as a defense against feeling held.

Daily practices

  • Place selenite or clear quartz on the crown while meditating.
  • Take an unscheduled walk with no podcast, no phone, and the stone in your pocket.
  • Choose one day a week of "lower input", less news, less scroll. Notice what surfaces.
  • Light a single candle before bed and breathe with it for five minutes, stone in hand.
